I’m still fully engaged in the New 52. I’m not buying as many different books as I was when it first began, but I’m still buying 10 times as many DC’s as I was. And I find myself more willing to try new books as they come out. I know a lot of people are mad about a reboot of continuity, but it’s allowing DC to reach out to as many new readers as possible, and I think they made the right choice here. Can’t wait for the new Superman: Unchained book this summer.
Thanks Wes. I see that a lot…. The new 52 has done wonders for bringing new readers into the shop. And from the constant stream of evaluations, cancellations,& new books I definitely get the sense of a commitment from DC to put quality books on our shelves. Of course there will be a few misses… And maybe more than a few hits that don’t just quite hit everyone’s tastes… But you can’t fault them for not trying.
Some books that have really surprised me out of “The 53”-
AQUAMAN – I can honestly say that I haven’t just jumped on this ship lately- I loved Peter David’s run on this book a few years back. It was freaking great then- at least until David left the book. Now Arthur is Geoff Johns little darling (Arthur better watch it… Last month’s VIBE & JLA may start eating up Johns’ love and attention!) but if the last 17 issues have been any indication… I believe we can look forward to a great run on this volume as well!
EARTH 2- I’m so glad I gave writer James Robinson a second (actually fourth- but who’s counting) Chance. I’m still missing Jay Garrik’s original helmet…. But the new Solomon Grundy almost makes up for it.
PHANTOM STRANGER- If you can’t tell, I like to follow writers. Nowhere on my list of favorites was Dan Didio… His few initial efforts that I’m familiar with we’re lackluster at best ( Metal Men in Wednesday Comics was disappointing)… But so far, I am completely digging the supernatural side of the 52! The long wait for Stranger, Pandora, The Question, and Specter appear to be paying off! They got me on this train an I really hope it keeps going great places!
