hey comix city fans we will be having a signing by one of the big names in independent comics
Josh Blaylock on July 26th from 4pm-7pm

Mr. Baylock is the founder and CEO of Devil’s Due Entertainment also, Devil’s Due is one of the largest and most established comic book publishers in North America, carrying a diverse line-up of original, creator-owned and licensed properties. Whether in Los Angeles or its homebase of Chicago, DDP has had/has partnerships with and projects in development for film and television with 20th Century Fox, ABC Family, Relativity Media, New Line Cinema, Starz Media, Rogue Pictures and more.

Due to the overwhelming success of the first one we are doing it again!  Thats right on the last Saturday in July from 2pm – 5pm we are going to be running an encore HeroClix Universty Beginner Course Demo & Game Event!  Don’t know how to play well thats okay we will have Experts here to teach and guide you threw your first Game!

– the “Cheat Death” upgrade can not be
use in conjunction with any card that
would cause you to dilebertly destroy
your own ship (i.e. “Self Destruct
Sequence” / “Suicide Attack”)
– participation prizes can not be used
in the tournament in they are given out for
– participation prizes can be used in
tournaments after the first one they are given out for

– no non L.E. ship that has not yet been
released for sale by the store are legal in
the tournament (i.e. if you get it online
early you can’t use it!)
– using an independent faction card/ship
does not violate faction pure or ship pure
all tho you still pay the penalty

“Arena OP Event”
– $5 entry
– Faction Pure
– all upgrades and elite talents are
considered unique except photon torpedoes
– RAW MATERIALS TOKENS (RMT) -These
tokens represent the raw materials located on
the planet’s surface that may be transformed
into weapons. They may be accumulated each
round by each fleet’s Away Team by using their
ships’ Actions.  RMTs will be used to enhance
the number of a Captain’s attack dice during
the “Captains’ Battle” that occurs once every
Captain is on the planet’s surface (see below).

– AWAY TEAM TOKENS – During the End
Phase of each round, remove 1 of the Mission
Tokens from the game.  Each time a Mission
Token is removed, both players must place an
Away Team Token on one of their Captain
Cards. The chosen Captain Card from each
fleet must be the one with the highest Skill
Number that does not already have an Away
Team Token on it (the player chooses if there
is a tie). These Captains are now considered to
be a part of that player’s Away Team and on
the planet’s surface.  While a Captain is part of
an Away Team, a player cannot use that
Captain’s text ability (if any) or any Elite Talent
Upgrades on that Captain’s Ship. In addition,
any ship whose Captain is part of an Away
Team is considered to have a Captain Skill of
“1”.  Captains that are part of an Away Team
are not destroyed if their ship is destroyed.
When the last Mission Token is removed from
the game, both players must place an Away
Team Token on all remaining Captain Cards in
their fleets that do not already have an Away
Team Token on them.  NOTE: All of the
damage from a single attack must be assigned
to a single Captain.
3)  When a Captain receives a number of
Damage Cards equal to or greater than his
Skill Number that Captain is immediately
destroyed and that Captain Card is removed
from the game. Remove all of the Damage
Cards from that Captain Card and place them
under the Damage Deck.
4)  The player whose Captain has the next
highest Skill Number attacks next.  Once all of
the Captains have attacked, repeat the steps
above starting with the Captain with the highest
Skill Number. Play continues in this manner
until all of the Captain Cards from one player’s
fleet are destroyed.  If both players’ Captains
are destroyed in the same attack (see
‘Simultaneous Attack Rule’ on pg 17 in the
Rules of Play), each player rolls 5 dice. The
player with the most [Battle Stations] results is
considered the victor of the Captains’ Battle.

– AFTERMATH – Once the Captains’ Battle is
over, return all of the Damage Cards from the
Captains to the Damage Deck and re- shuffle
the Damage Deck.  The VICTORIOUS
PLAYER then resets the entire play area with
the following limitations:
1)  Away Team Tokens are removed from all
remaining Captains. These cards are no longer
considered part of an Away Team. The
victorious player may reassign his Captains to
his ships as he sees fit (one per ship), and any
extra Captains are placed beneath one of his
ship cards (of his choice). These cards will
count towards a player’s surviving fleet if that
ship survives the battle.
2)  The Planet Token is placed anywhere within
the play area, but not within 4” of any edge of
the play area.
3)  All of the ships that were removed are
positioned back in the play area by the
victorious player without any Tokens beside
them (except for Critical Hit Tokens where
appropriate). No ship may be placed within 4”
of any Token, Ship or any edge of the play
area. NOTE: All ships that were damaged or
destroyed prior to the Captains’ Battle remain
equally damaged or destroyed.  The battle in
space resumes between the remaining ships
and play continues until one player is
eliminated or the time limit is reached.

The Planet Token and all remaining ships are
then removed from the play area. All Tokens
that were beside those ships are returned to
the Action Token Supply. The battle in space is
suspended and the Captains’ Battle begins
0(see ‘Captains’ Battle’ below).
– PLANET TOKEN – Treat this as a regular
Planet Token (see page 23 in the Rules of
Play). Any ship within Range 1-2 of the Planet
Token may perform the following Action:
“ACTION: Target 1 of your Captains in your
Away Team. Roll 1 attack die for every point of
that Captain’s Skill Number. For every [Battle
Stations] result, place 1 Raw Materials Token
onto that Captain’s Card (min 1).” NOTE: Each
Captain in your Away Team may only be
targeted by this Action once per round.
– CAPTAINS’ BATTLE – When the last Mission
Token is removed from the game, the players’
Away Teams are forced to battle each other.
Captains attack one-at-a-time in descending
order of their Captain Skill (high to low). If 2 or
more Captains have the same Skill Number,
resolve their attacks following the same
initiative rules used in Ship Combat (see pg 21
in the Full Rules of Play).
Follow these steps for each Captain’s attack
starting with the player whose Captain has the
highest Skill Number:
1)  The attacker spends one RMT from the
Captain Card and rolls 6 attack dice. If there
are no RMTs on that Captain Card, the attacker
rolls 3 attack dice.
2)  The defender must then assign damage to
one of his Captains (of his choice) equal to the
number of [Hit] and [Critical Hit] results. Mark
the damage to the Captains with face down
cards from the Damage Deck.
– ONLY ONE CAPTINS BATTLE PER
MATCH
– you get 2 battle points per match win
or bye and 1 point for a loss
– parings are random for the first wound
and then determined by battle points
with fleet points as a the breaker
– a player who gets a buy gets two battle
points and what ever the average
number of fleet points is
– at the end of the match each player
gets fleets points equal to the build limit
minus the number of points remaining in
your opponents fleet
at the end of three rounds the winner of
the event will be the player with the
highest total of fleet and battle points
combined

500 Point Constructed 

All characters have leap/climb.
All attacks do knockback (even
if a character would normally be
immune) and characters do not
take extra damage from knockback.
If a figure hits a wall, obstacle or
another character,  they “bounce”
in the opposite direction for the
remainder of the knockback distance.
Anytime a character moves or is
moved, roll 1d6 at the end of the
action. On a 1-3 they will continue
half the distance they moved in a
straight line from the last two
squares they moved through. When
this happens, you are required to
yell “wheeeeeeee!” in a falsetto voice.
No resources, team bases or colossals.

7/26/2014 – General Purpose

Build two 300-point teams. All figures
on each of these teams must share
the same generic keyword (though
they can be a non-generic theme
team if they also share a non-generic
keyword). The two teams may each
use different generic keywords. The
player who does not pick the map
may pick to play at the 300 or 600
point level. No tactics except
theme teams.

No tactics besides theme team.
No team bases. No characters
with multi-attack.

 

7/12/2014 – Zero G

 

500 Point Constructed 

All characters have leap/climb.
All attacks do knockback (even
if a character would normally be
immune) and characters do not
take extra damage from knockback.
If a figure hits a wall, obstacle or
another character,  they “bounce”
in the opposite direction for the
remainder of the knockback distance.
Anytime a character moves or is
moved, roll 1d6 at the end of the
action. On a 1-3 they will continue
half the distance they moved in a
straight line from the last two
squares they moved through. When
this happens, you are required to
yell “wheeeeeeee!” in a falsetto voice.
No resources, team bases or colossals.

Build two 300-point teams. All figures
on each of these teams must share
the same generic keyword (though
they can be a non-generic theme
team if they also share a non-generic
keyword). The two teams may each
use different generic keywords. The
player who does not pick the map
may pick to play at the 300 or 600
point level. No tactics except
theme teams.

MARVEL COMICS AVENGERS NOW HULK ARTFX+ STATUE -$65

From Kotobukiya!  Marvel Comics is the next great property to get Kotobukiya’s ARTFX+ statue treatment, and so of course the first series is none other than the Avengers, specifically the characters as they appear in Marvel Now.  In 2012 the comic book company relaunched several titles, shifting some characters into different books and updating some for a modern audience.  More than anything, it provided a perfect jumping on point for new readers.  Now the characters are brought to life as never before based on concept artwork by superstar artist Adi Granov.  For the very first Avengers ARTFX+ release… well, he’s big, he’s green, and he’s always angry… it’s the HULK!

Bruce Banner was a scientist studying the effects of gamma radiation when he was caught in an explosion.  Rather than destroy him the energies transformed him into the massive green-skinned Hulk!  The Avenger stands in a classic comic book pose, angled to the side and leaning forward with his arms outstretched.  The Hulk has his leading hand open as though to taunt his enemies, though his right hand behind him is balled into a fist to deliver a mighty blow!  The Hulk is fantastically detailed with intricate musculature down to his sinews and veins, and the harsh grimace on his face shows off the rage he can’t keep bottled up in battle.  Banner’s alter ego wears his traditional tattered purple pants (no Hulk would be complete without them), and his skin is expertly painted with varying shades of green.

The massive Hulk stands just barely under 10 inches tall (in the ARTFX+ 1/10th scale) on his included magnetic display base.  Hulk will be joined by his fellow Avengers with upcoming releases Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, so get him to begin your collection!

– Players set up using the
Standard 2 Player Rules
– Earth Planet Token in the center
w/ Starfleet Headquarters Token(SHQ)
on top of the Planet Token, in the center
W/6 Mission Tokens on this token
– 4 Planetary Defense Tokens (PDT) touching
the edge of the Planet Token (N, S, E and W)
– PDTs attack every ship within range 1-2
that attacked Starfleet Headquarters that round.
PDTs attack last and as one single attack
(i.e. 2 dice  x the # in range 1-2
-The PDTs cannot be destroyed for
this tournament.
– the SHQ Token may be fired at by any ship.
– Any ship attacking SHQ rolls 1 less attack die
– If a ship inflicts at least 1 damage to the
SHQ, the player that inflicted the damage
removes one of the Mission Tokens and
places it beside his Ship Cards (Only 1
Mission Token per attack)
Once the last Mission Token is removed
from the SHQ it can then be destroyed.
– The next damage inflicted on the SHQ
will destroy it. Place the SHQ Token beside
the Ship Cards of the player that inflicts
the last damage.

OBJECTIVES

Destroy all of your opponent’s ships, while
not being destroyed by the Planetary
Defense Tokens.

BONUS POINTS:
At the end of the Battle, a player receives
+5 Fleet Points for every Mission Token
beside his Ship Cards and an additional
+5 Fleet Points if the SHQ Token is
beside his Ship Cards.

If a player has no Mission Tokens
or SHQ Token beside his Ship Cards
at the end of the battle, that player

500 Point Constructed

Players will be randomly assigned
one of the following each match:

 

Envy – You cannot use any standard
powers that is not showing on the dial
of one of your opponent’s active characters.
Special powers and traits act as normal.

 

Gluttony – One of your characters must
be assigned a power action each turn to
“eat”. If you cannot assign an eat action,
give a character an unavoidable click of
damage instead.

 

Greed – After the map is chosen but before
sides are determined, place 5 special relic
tokens with a 5 or 6 relic roll on the board.
They must be at least 3 squares from each
other. Any of your characters without a relic
on their card are at -1 to all combat values.
 

Lust – Your characters have -1 to attack,
defense, and damage against characters
of the opposite sex and may not attack
them unless all characters of the same
sex have been KO’ed.

 

Pride – Your characters’ combat values
are locked and you may not use probability
control on a friendly character.

 

Sloth – Your characters may not use move
and attack powers and may not attack
after being TK’ed.

 

Wrath – Your characters may not make
ranged combat attacks and may
not be carried.

 

No tactics aside from theme teams.
No team bases.

 

4/19/2014 – AvX Finale

500 Point Single Booster + Constructed 

Players will purchase one HeroClix
five-figure booster of their choice from
their store. Any player who has already
declared a faction will continue to fight for
that faction. Any new players must
declare for either Avengers or X-Men.

 

Players will bring at least one figure and
no more than 400 points from their chosen
faction’s AvX starter set or participation
prizes. Players will then utilize a combination
of the contents of their booster, AvX
participation reward figures (e.g. Danger,
Black Panther, etc.), and their selected
starter set characters to finalize their
500 point team.

 

No tactics aside from the Phoenix Force
resource and fragments may be used
(so no theme teams).

 

Upon completion of the event, faction points
will be determined based on the top X
number of players from each faction, where
X equals the smaller of the two factions.
These faction points are important because
the top two players of the winning faction
and the top player of the losing faction will
earn an LE figure at the end of all the AvX
events.

 

The Dark Phoenix Cyclops LE will be
awarded to the 1st place winner. The top two
players from the winning faction and the top
player from the losing faction (across all AvX
events) will be awarded a Phoenixbuster Iron
Man LE. The first 10 registered Avengers
players who complete the event will earn an
Avengers team base. The first 10 registered
X-Men players who complete the event will
earn an X-Men team base. Additionally, the first
20 registered players who complete the event
will earn a Magik Fragment 3D Special Object
(for use with the Phoenix Force Resource Dial).

Bruce Banner was a scientist studying the effects of gamma radiation when he was caught in an explosion.  Rather than destroy him the energies transformed him into the massive green-skinned Hulk!  The Avenger stands in a classic comic book pose, angled to the side and leaning forward with his arms outstretched.  The Hulk has his leading hand open as though to taunt his enemies, though his right hand behind him is balled into a fist to deliver a mighty blow!  The Hulk is fantastically detailed with intricate musculature down to his sinews and veins, and the harsh grimace on his face shows off the rage he can’t keep bottled up in battle.  Banner’s alter ego wears his traditional tattered purple pants (no Hulk would be complete without them), and his skin is expertly painted with varying shades of green.

The massive Hulk stands just barely under 10 inches tall (in the ARTFX+ 1/10th scale) on his included magnetic display base.  Hulk will be joined by his fellow Avengers with upcoming releases Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, so get him to begin your collection!

SATURDAY April 19th, 3pm
“op month 4 redux”
– Players set up using the Standard 2 Player Rules
– Earth Planet Token in the center w/ Starfleet Headquarters Token(SHQ) on top of the Planet Token, in the center W/6 Mission Tokens on this token
– 4 Planetary Defense Tokens (PDT) touching the edge of the Planet Token (N, S, E and W)
– PDTs attack every ship within range 1-2 that attacked Starfleet Headquarters that round. PDTs attack last and as one single attack (i.e. 2 dice  x the # in range 1-2
-The PDTs cannot be destroyed for this tournament.
– the SHQ Token may be fired at by any ship.
– Any ship attacking SHQ rolls 1 less attack die
– If a ship inflicts at least 1 damage to the SHQ, the player that inflicted the damage removes one of the Mission Tokens and places it beside his Ship Cards (Only 1 Mission Token per   attack)
Once the last Mission Token is removed from the SHQ it can then be destroyed.
– The next damage inflicted on the SHQ will destroy it. Place the SHQ Token beside the Ship Cards of the player that inflicts the last damage.

OBJECTIVES

Destroy all of your opponent’s ships, while not being destroyed by the Planetary Defense Tokens.

BONUS POINTS:
At the end of the Battle, a player receives +5 Fleet Points for every Mission Token beside his

Ship Cards and an additional +5 Fleet Points if the SHQ Token is beside his Ship Cards.

If a player has no Mission Tokens or SHQ Token beside his Ship Cards at the end of the battle, that player receives an additional +10 Fleet Points.

500 Point Constructed

Players will be randomly assigned one of the following each match:

 

Envy – You cannot use any standard powers that is not showing on the dial of one of your opponent’s active characters. Special powers and traits act as normal.

 

Gluttony – One of your characters must be assigned a power action each turn to “eat”. If you cannot assign an eat action, give a character an unavoidable click of damage instead.

 

Greed – After the map is chosen but before sides are determined, place 5 special relic tokens with a 5 or 6 relic roll on the board. They must be at least 3 squares from each other. Any of your characters without a relic on their card are at -1 to all combat values.

 

Lust – Your characters have -1 to attack, defense, and damage against characters of the opposite sex and may not attack them unless all characters of the same sex have been KO’ed.

 

Pride – Your characters’ combat values are locked and you may not use probability control on a friendly character.

 

Sloth – Your characters may not use move and attack powers and may not attack after being TK’ed.

 

Wrath – Your characters may not make ranged combat attacks and may not be carried.

 

No tactics aside from theme teams. No team bases.

 

4/19/2014 – AvX Finale

500 Point Single Booster + Constructed 

Players will purchase one HeroClix five-figure booster of their choice from their store. Any player who has already declared a faction will continue to fight for that faction. Any new players must declare for either Avengers or X-Men.

 

Players will bring at least one figure and no more than 400 points from their chosen faction’s AvX starter set or participation prizes. Players will then utilize a combination of the contents of their booster, AvX participation reward figures (e.g. Danger, Black Panther, etc.), and their selected starter set characters to finalize their 500 point team.

 

No tactics aside from the Phoenix Force resource and fragments may be used (so no theme teams).

 

Upon completion of the event, faction points will be determined based on the top X number of players from each faction, where X equals the smaller of the two factions. These faction points are important because the top two players of the winning faction and the top player of the losing faction will earn an LE figure at the end of all the AvX events.

 

The Dark Phoenix Cyclops LE will be awarded to the 1st place winner. The top two players from the winning faction and the top player from the losing faction (across all AvX events) will be awarded a Phoenixbuster Iron Man LE. The first 10 registered Avengers players who complete the event will earn an Avengers team base. The first 10 registered X-Men players who complete the event will earn an X-Men team base. Additionally, the first 20 registered players who complete the event will earn a Magik Fragment 3D Special Object (for use with the Phoenix Force Resource Dial).
